My Sister, the Survivor

Breast Cancer Awareness For those of you who don’t know my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in December. Click the link for my post several months ago on her diagnosis. The news of my sister’s diagnosis came on the heels of a very horrible year for my family: our mother’s horrible car accident, and the death of our step-father. It has been a rough year to say the least for my whole family.

In February my sister had a double mastectomy. Unfortunately, she was not able to have re-constructive surgery at the same time and she’s still recovering. This makes two women in my immediate family to have breast cancer. My mother has also been a breast cancer survivor for over 20 years!

Every year my mom participates in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®. This year both my mother and my sister will both be participating in the race. I find this incredibly impressive that only seven months after my sister’s surgeries to remove both breasts and complications stemming from them, she has it in her to participate. If you can spare a little time and a tad bit of money, please donate on Kellie’s behalf. If you can’t do the suggested amounts, there’s an “Other” option. Even $5.00 would help!
